The Body Shop Concealer

The Body Shop Concealer

From www.thebodyshop-usa.com:

Best if you want to: Effectively camouflage blemishes and redness with a wax-based, easy-to-blend concealer.

Best for: all skin types and tones

What it is designed to do:

  • Light reflective particles instantly brighten skin and reduce appearance of fine lines.
  • Non-clogging, long-lasting formula with a high level of pigmentation provides great coverage.
  • Non-greasy jojoba oil helps to restore skin’s moisture balance without clogging pores.

Packaging:
Chubby pencil, comes with its cap. It’s not an automatic pencil, you’ll need to sharpen it manually.

Color Selection:
6 colors listed in the website. I used the lightest one.

Texture:
Ugh. Waxy. Sticky yet powdery?

Coverage:
Questionable. The coverage is quite thick when it first applied, but then it’s all gone by the time I finish blending.

Blendability:
Bad. It’s waxy, but not in a smooth way. The sticky texture makes it difficult to blend. In the end you’ll wipe the product off your face.

Finish:
Cakey with very minimum coverage.

Oil Control/Lasting Power:
I wouldn’t know its oil control since I mainly use this sporadically on my acne scars, and my skin is rather dry so oil control is not tested on me.

However, this concealer is gone by mid day. Ugh.

My General Review:
The description above tells it all. This product was my first concealer, and it totally annoyed the heck out of me. Waxy, hard to blend, no coverage. Just cakey mess. And by lunch time it would have gone from your face.

This was my first concealer, and I was utterly disappointed in it. I thrown mine away. What a waste of money.

What Else You Need To Know:
You can sharpen it with a special sharpener that is provided by TBS. It’s USD5.50.

Application:
I tried to apply this on top of moisturizer, before foundation. Tried using it after foundation too, the results were just as saddening.

Price:
USD11.

Availability:
Available in TBS outlets nationwide. Color selection may be smaller here though.

Ingredients:
Ricinus Communis (Castor Seed) Oil, Octyl Palmitate, Nylon-12, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Octyldodecanol, Beeswax, Sclerocarya Birrea (Marula) Oil, Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Copernica Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Buxus Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Bentonite, Calcium Sulfate, Tocopherol, Talc, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Wheat Germ Glycerides, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides.

Overall Rating:
1 out of 5. Skip it, it’s not worth it. There are other better quality concealer out there.

Doreen once commented that I seemed to have tried quite some foundation. Well….yes and no haha. At the moment all I have is this much.

Wortel's Foundation Bucket

Wortel's Foundation Bucket

Yes people, it’s Wall-E that you see :P I re-used the pop-corn bucket from XXI Cineplex to store my foundations/tinted moisturizers/bases/concealers/BB creams. Recycle you know :D

I’ve sold/swapped some like MAC Hyper Real SPF15, MAC Prep/Prime, Shiseido Sheer Enhancer Base, Skinfood Aloe BB Cream….and countless others. At the moment these are the ones that I hold on to.

This bucket excludes my mineral products and powder foundations though. I only have few MMU products, I store it randomly :P I need more space to hold my makeup!

MUFE Full Cover Extreme Camouflage Cream Concealer

MUFE Full Cover Extreme Camouflage Cream Concealer

From www.sephora.com:
An ultra long-lasting, matte finish, oil-free, waterproof, full coverage concealer.

Designed to cover major imperfections like scars, hyperpigmentation, major discoloration, burns, and tattoos. This light and creamy concealer contains a high concentration of pigments that stay put, making it perfect for use on the face, as well as the body.

Clinically tested on sensitive skin and dermatologically controlled for gentleness.

My Skin Type:
Actually very oily, but surpressed with BHA exfoliator. Results in generally ranging from very dry to normal/combo skin. Generally dehydrated, very sensitive, and acne prone.

My Skin Tone:
Some said I have very fair, Casper-ish complexion. Frankly speaking, that’s what you see in my FOTDs, but I personally think I look (much) darker in person than in those photos. Still, yes, I’m quite fair.

Bottomline: my skintone range is lighter than MAC NC/NW15 to NC/NW20.

I have neutral cool undertone.

Packaging:
Plastic tube with narrow opening. Very practical for traveling, and it’s very easy to take out proper amount of product. The plastic is transparent so you can gauge how much is left.

Color Selection:
Not as much as brands like Becca or MAC, but I find a perfect match for my complexion with #2. It’s supposed to be the lightest one.

My old camera is not good at taking swatches, but at least you can search for some of my FOTDs and see that #2 works well for my complexion.

Texture:
Smooth cream with enough slip, without being waxy.

Coverage:
Medium-full. Supposed to be full, but I’ve never found a product that can cover flaring acne or my very dark circles. I’m pretty satistified with the coverage, better than most concealer.

Blendability:
Good. Maybe not as liquid/easy to blend like its MUFE Lift Concealer conterpart, but it’s still easy to blend without pulling, even under eyes.

Finish:
Matte with no cakeyness. I always set it with loose powder. I have tons of fine lines and wrinkles on the under eyes, but this doesn’t sink at all if I set it with powder.

Oil Control:
Concealer is not supposed to have oil control? LOL. All I know is, it works very well on my dry under eyes, and on my face. Oilier t-zone, drier cheeks, this concealer takes it all.

My General Review:
This is the best concealer I’ve ever used, hands down. Previously I’ve only tried MAC Select Cover-Up and TBS Concealer. Both are crap. MUFE almost always have the good stuff, thankfully :D

I bought this for my acne scars, but I ended up using this mostly for under eyes, just because I have *very* bad dark rings :( It’s very challenging there. It’s dry with lots of lines, yet it needs serious concealing power. And this product delivers! Okay, this doesn’t cover my rings 100%, I think because of the tone. I have purplish/brownish circles, and I need Bobbi Brown Corrector in Peach to correct it, then 2 layers of MUFE Full Cover to cover it. That’s the best result I’ve ever got in concealing my dark circles, even though some darkness still shows through. Told ya it’s bad! :P

For my acne scars, yes, sometimes it can cake, but what do you expect from a wrinkly-dry breakouts? If I carefully apply it, and set it with LP, my skintone is evened out by far.

My favorite method of application is with fingers; by lightly patting it into the skin. I do have MAC #194 concealer brush, but I find it pulls my skin too much.

Lasting power is…..I can’t tell actually. My dark circles has a tendency to get even darker as the day goes. So I think it’s still there, still no caking, no settling into fine lines, but it’s not enough anymore for me at the evening.

The tube is HUGE it will lasts a lifetime since only little amount is needed every time.

Price:
Not that expensive….I bought this very long time ago, when it is newly released in Jakarta. It was around IDR200,000? Dunno the price now. US$30 at Sephora.

Availability:
MUFE is available at all SOGO Department Store Jakarta, Indonesia. There’s also a boutique in Plaza Indonesia and Dharmawangsa Square.

What Else You Need To Know:
I notice no fragrance, and there’s no fragrance listed in the ingredient list either. A major plus for me and others with sensitive skin.

Ingredients:
Water, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isododecane, Glycerin, Polyehtylene Disteardimonium Hectorite, Microcrystalline  Cellulose, Phenoxyethanol, Silica Dimentyl Silyate, PET-30, Dipolyhydroxystearate, Magnesium Sulfate, Sodium Chloride, Xanthan Gum, Propylene Carbonate, Propylparaben, Octyldodecyl Myristate, Capparis Spinosa Extract, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone, Crosspolymer, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Chlorphenesin, Methylparaben, Allantoin, Tetrasodium EDTA.

May contain: Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides

Overall Rating:
5 out of 5. This is the best concealer I’ve used. Even though I haven’t used much, but this satisfied me in most aspect.
